There are countless forms of Divination around the world, especially throughout African traditions. Divination is a practice of communing with spirits, nature, and ancestors, to access insights, healing, and information for our human journeys.

Dagara “stick medicine” Divination, is a specific lineage that traces its roots more than 20,000yrs into the past, having been passed down for thousands of generations to the present time.

In Stick Divinations the Diviner is using a stick, rattle, bells, and shells, to commune with a “kit” of pieces that each represent ancestral, spiritual, or natural energies and beings, and the insights and information is then communicated through the Diviner to you.

There is no “medicine” ingested at any time as part of a Divination. The “stick medicine” referred to is a spiritual practice in which the Diviner is communing with ancestral and spiritual energies, using a wooden stick as the primary Divination tool.

Divination Kits in the Dagara Stick Medicine tradition, include the divination stick, a gourd rattle, a bell, and a set of special cowry shells. These are the Diviner’s tool set.

With these tools, the Diviner connects with various “pieces” in the kit, which are pieces of sticks, shells, stones, bones, feathers, and other pieces that have been gifted to the Diviner to represent significant healings received through previous sessions.

Sessions range from 60-90 minutes typically, though it is recommended to set aside 2hrs for preparation and integration.

The most important preparation is to clarify your questions, challenges, or prayers for the session. Journaling is recommended. Once it is clear, find a 25-cent piece (Quarter), or similar coin, and speak your intentions, questions, and prayers into the coin, and bring your coin to the Divination session along with a journal and pen. It is good to meditate for a few minutes before the session to ground and collect your energy, and it is best to be in a quiet and private space for the duration of the call. Many people choose to spend 10-15 minutes directly following the session to journal and integrate.

Yes! It is quite common for Divinations to be conducted by video call, and sessions are equally as potent whether they are in-person or virtual. Following virtual sessions, it is important that you send your quarter/coin by mail to the Diviner.
